5000 Origami Cranes5,000 Origami Cranes Olympic/Paralympic Project >>

  • For this event, we will join the City of Vancouver to celebrate the "Pulse to the Podium," as we will be folding 1,000 origami cranes in each of the five Olympic colours and would like to display it in a venue that Olympic and Paralympic visitors from around the world will be able to see.
  • The purpose of the 5,000 cranes is to support the athletes coming from around the world in their competitions and to wish them luck in achieving their goals.
  • We want to encourage people in the Lower Mainland to participate in this visual display of their support for all of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
  • We also want to teach this part of Japanese culture to the community at large by having them participate in the crane folding experience, and write a message to the athletes in any language on the crane.
  • The Vancouver Mokuyokai Society and Kiyukai (Vancouver Japanese Business Association) are working together on this project and have set up five events on five separate days.
  • The Pulse to the Podium events are a partnership between the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and local community centre associations. They are a series of free, family-focused community events designed to help build excitement and spirit for the 2010 Winter Games.
  • Kerrisdale Community Centre ------------- Sat., Nov. 7th, 11am to 1pm
    Marpole-Oakridge Community Centre --- Sat., Nov. 21st, 12pm to 2pm
Riley Park Community Centre ------------- Sat., Nov. 28th, 12pm to 2pm
False Creek Community Centre ----------- Sun., Nov. 29th, 11am to 1pm
Sunset Community Centre ----------------- Sat., Dec. 12th, 12pm to 2pm
